Vinyl flooring has some great qualities that make it a very practical surface as well as offering far better aesthetics than the material did a generation ago. But while it is far from being a tough floor to clean, it can be a big and frequent job to do so – especially if it is a large flooring area, such as in commercial premises.

Many steps can be taken either by a householder or by those in charge of commercial or public premises to get and keep a vinyl floor clean, but sometimes it reaches the point where a vinyl floor cleaning service is needed to get the results you want.

It is not hard to find practical advice. For example, a guide in Home and Gardens Magazine asserted that vinyl floors are “incredibly easy to clean”, but also “incredibly delicate”.

This process starts with sweeping and brushing using a broom with soft bristles, or using a vacuum cleaner, but without using the beater bar as this can scratch the floor.

Next, gently clean up the floor using a mixture of water and baking soda, making sure this is all thoroughly cleaned away so it does not build up a layer of soda caking. After this, the floor should be mopped and then finally dried with a towel.

Homebuilding.co.uk gives similar advice for vinyl plank floors, adding that these should be cleaned on a weekly basis, with other important steps including barrier mats and floors to limit the amount of dust and debris that gets on the floor to start with.

All this may be good advice, especially for a smaller floor like a kitchen, but such an undertaking could be quite a large one for an extensive floor, taking a long time and all having to be done with great care to avoid scratching.

It is for this reason that bringing in the skilled pros can be the best thing to do if it is a larger floor, giving you the time to get on with other tasks.
