There are many different luxury flooring solutions available, some of which provide somewhat similar effects to each other.

Where they often differ, however, is how easy they are to maintain and restore if they become stained, damaged or worn out over time, which often means that floor restoration specialists are key to the best results.

With that in mind, here are some flooring surfaces which require particular attention.

Terrazzo

Once a ubiquitous look in many shopping centres and offices, the ordered chaos which made Terrazzo so appealing also made it extremely difficult to fix in a way that maintained the original look.

An accurate, beautiful restoration requires extensive knowledge of the materials involved, the use of carefully chosen patching materials and matching aggregates to create a seamless result once ground and polished.

The result should be imperceptible, with the restoration matching the rest of the unique polished aggregate concrete style.

White Marble

Marble has a reputation for being a completely smooth surface owing to the way in which it is polished and sealed, giving it a smooth texture when it brushes against the skin, but marble is a remarkably difficult material to clean and restore if it gets damaged or stained.

Ultimately, marble is made of extremely permeable limestone, making it a remarkably soft substance that can be especially difficult to work with. Much like terrazzo, its characteristic natural veins of colour can also make it harder to restore than it otherwise would be.

White marble, such as highly desirable Carrara, is one of the most beautiful and yet most difficult materials to clean and restore, not helped by the fact that it is also very easy to stain and damage in the first place.

However, restoration experts can work around this by grinding away surface scratches before using an impregnating sealant to protect it from future staining.
